PRE-TRAVEL ACADEMY

The 2025 Pre-Travel Academy is geared towards intramural players born in 8/1/2017  - 7/31/2019 who love to play soccer and would like to have more opportunities to learn, develop and play.  This is a supplemental program to the Colonial SC Fall Intramural program.  While it is not required to tryout for the Travel Team Program in the Spring of 2026, this program is geared towards players who are interested in doing so.

Players will be introduced to developmentally appropriate training that will be both fun and instructional.  This program is an introduction to what players and parents can expect from the Travel program.

The focus is individual technical development including dribbling, passing, receiving, shooting as well as small group tactics including 1v1 and 2v1 while learning the 7v7 game.

There are no formal tryouts for this program.  Details for each season are below.

The Pre-Travel Academy is run by our Technical Director, Danielle Fagan and she is assisted by our professional training staff and parent volunteers.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  1.  What is the methodology of this program?  We follow the play-practice-play methodology so each training session will start with a small-sided game or Rondo followed by a ball mastery skill and main activity.  Each session will end with a 7v7 scrimmage with an emphasis on teaching positions and the laws of the game including the modifications for 7v7: the buildout line and offside ruling.

  2.  What is the role of the staff?  The program is led by Technical Director, Danielle Fagan and she is assisted by professional trainers and parent volunteer coaches.  The staff will provide minimal guidance during the first "play" section of the training session to allow for free play, creativity and for players to try new things to solve the problems of the game.  Think of it as a pick-up game with coaches as observers.

  3. How far is the travel?  We will keep travel to under an hour for the friendlies and tournaments.  Our goal is to set up home/away friendlies with local clubs and enter tournaments such as Langhorne/Neshaminy, MonU, Parkwood and Upper Dublin for example.

  4. Can I play for a travel team? An intramural team? This program is open to players in intramural only.  This is a supplemental program and doesn't take the place of being on an intramural team.  No carded travel team players are permitted to be in this program.

  5. What is the time commitment?  The Fall program is 1 hour of training per week for 5 weeks.  Plan on 2-3 friendlies/tournaments in November.  Friendlies will be on one weekend day and be completed within 3 hours.  Tournaments could be one or two days in a weekend and the schedule depends on the tournament.  The Winter program is indoor futsal training 45 minutes per session for 8 weeks at Messiah Church Gym in Lafayette Hill.  We will not organize teams for winter leagues and recommend anyone who would like to play game in the winter to enter the house league or U8 Travel league at YSC Sports.

  6. Does my child have to tryout for the Colonial SC Travel Team program in order to participate in the Pre-Travel Academy?  No.  However, in the Spring of 2026, players  will have the option to tryout for the Colonial SC 2026/2027 Season Travel U8 and U9 teams.

  7. Does my child have to participate in the Pre-Travel Academy in order to tryout for the Colonial SC 2025/2026 Travel program?  No; however, it is recommended if players would like extra development and have a passion for the game.

  8. Is this the same as the Fall Intramural Select Program?  No.  The Colonial SC Fall Intramural Select Program is for Intramural players U9 (born in 2017) and older.  The Select program is run by parent volunteers and requires tryouts to be selected for a team.  The club previously had a U8 Select program but it is no longer in existence due to the creation of the Pre-Travel Academy.

  9. What is the professional staff's background? The staff is all professionally licensed by the United States Soccer Federation.  Click here for their bios.
